Arizona Game and Fish 21 Acre Marsh Restoration
Prior to restoration, the Arizona Game and Fish 21 acre marsh was dominated by a monoculture of non-native tamarisk and phragmites, which provided low quality habitat for wildlife. In order to enhance the site, Fred Phillips Consulting partnered with the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area to secure funding for restoration, maintenance, and management of the 21 acre site.  FPC prepared planning for the removal of non-native species, conducted site and soil analysis, designed the native plant revegetation, and managed installation of plant material on the site.  We continue to perform the project site management, maintenance, and monitoring. Currently, the native riparian vegetation is showing significant positive growth and natural recruitment. The marsh provides habitat for an abundance of resident and migrating marsh and riparian bird species, including Yuma Clapper Rail, American avocet, black-necked stilt, and long billed curlew.
